Role Purpose
The Disaster Recovery Manager will own the design, testing and continuous improvement of the organisation's technology disaster recovery capability, ensuring critical systems can be recovered within agreed tolerances and regulatory resilience obligations are met.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain and test disaster recovery (DR) plans for critical systems and infrastructure
- Define and track recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO) against business requirements
- Plan and coordinate DR exercises and simulations, including post-exercise reporting and remediation
- Work with infrastructure, cloud and application teams to identify and close DR capability gaps
- Maintain the DR runbook library and ensure alignment with business continuity plans
- Support operational resilience obligations under APRA CPS 230, including critical operations mapping
- Report DR readiness, test outcomes and open risks to Technology Risk and Resilience committees
- Coordinate with vendors and data centre/cloud providers on DR-related commitments and SLAs
Skills & Experience
- 5+ years' experience in disaster recovery, IT resilience or infrastructure risk, ideally in financial services
- Hands-on experience planning and executing DR test exercises
- Understanding of RTO/RPO concepts and critical system dependency mapping
- Familiarity with APRA CPS 230 operational resilience requirements
- Strong stakeholder and vendor management skills
- Clear, structured reporting and documentation skills
Desirable
- Experience with cloud-based DR (AWS/Azure) and hybrid infrastructure
- Certification such as CBCI, DRCE or similar business continuity/DR credential
- Experience integrating DR planning with broader business continuity management (BCM)
- Background working directly with regulators or internal audit on resilience testing
