Description and Requirements

The Manager, Lead Full Stack Software Engineer is responsible for leading the design, development, delivery, and operation of enterprise-grade applications using Java and Microsoft Azure technologies. This role combines hands-on technical leadership with engineering team management responsibilities, driving delivery excellence while developing a high-performing engineering organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design, development, and maintenance of full-stack applications using Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, modern web technologies, and Azure cloud services.

• Define technical architecture and engineering standards for cloud-native and microservices-based solutions.

• Design and implement scalable, secure, and reliable solutions leveraging Microsoft Azure services including App Services, Azure Functions, AKS, and Azure SQL.

• Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, and business stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and delivery plans.

• Ensure software quality through architecture governance, code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and engineering best practices.

• Lead the resolution of complex technical issues and drive continuous improvements in performance, security, reliability, and operational efficiency.

• Manage and mentor a team of software engineers through coaching, performance management, career development, and regular feedback.

• Establish team objectives, manage resource allocation, and ensure successful delivery of multiple initiatives while balancing technical excellence and business priorities.

• Recruit, develop, and retain engineering talent while fostering an inclusive, accountable, and collaborative engineering culture.

• Drive technology modernization initiatives and influence strategic engineering decisions across the organization

Required Professional Experience and Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of professional software development experience, including extensive hands-on full-stack application development.
• 3+ years of experience leading and managing software engineering teams.
• Strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, RESTful API development, and modern software architecture patterns.
• Experience developing web applications using JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks such as React or Angular.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services and cloud-native application development.
• Experience designing and implementing microservices, distributed systems, and containerized applications using Docker and AKS.
• Strong knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, including database architecture and performance optimization.
• Experience with DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, source control systems, and modern software delivery methodologies.
• Proven ability to lead technical initiatives while managing delivery schedules, priorities, risks, and stakeholder expectations.
• Experience in performance management, coaching, talent development, and building high-performing engineering teams.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
• Business-level English and Japanese communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.

Other Desirable Experience and Skills

• Microsoft Azure certifications such as Azure Developer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, or equivalent.
• Experience leading cloud modernization, digital transformation, or large-scale platform modernization initiatives.
• Experience managing geographically distributed and multicultural engineering teams.
• Experience in financial services, insurance, or highly regulated industries.
• Experience driving engineering excellence initiatives, including DevSecOps, SRE, platform engineering, or AI-assisted software development practices.
