Coline Gerard joined electronic trading firm Optiver’s derivatives institutional sales team earlier this month in Hong Kong. She joined the firm from Goldman Sachs, where she worked for eight years across Paris, London, and most recently Hong Kong.
Joining at the same time as her was Patrick Jacob, a former Nomura equity derivatives salesperson, although seemingly not French. Jacob is also the founder of Labret, a Hong Kong-based piercing and jewelry brand. Both will be reporting to Stéphane Martin, who is possibly French, and is certainly Optiver’s head of derivatives institutional sales in APAC, based in Singapore.
Optiver has been growing recently. Bloomberg reported last week that the firm was seeking to raise $900m to finance an expansion - via $700m in debt and a $200m revolver - although that was on hold due to market uncertainty and the US elections, among other things. Bloomberg said that the arrangement had no clear target date, however, and might even be cancelled.
Optiver did not respond to a request for comment. The firm does not seem to have any open job postings in Hong Kong - while it does have three in Taipei, four in Mumbai, eight in Singapore, and 27 in Sydney. It does not have any open positions in its derivatives team either, except for an engineering role.
